Requirements for the labeling of goods in Ukraine

The content of the label for non-food products in Ukraine is regulated by Article 15 of the Law “On Consumer Rights” No. 1023-XII. According to this article, the label must contain information in Ukrainian about:

  • product name;
  • basic properties such as weight, volume, etc., rules of use;
  • data on hazardous substances in the product;
  • labeling about the content or absence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs);
  • price or tariff;
  • date of manufacture;
  • best before date;
  • storage requirements;
  • warranty obligations;
  • Operating Instructions;
  • safety instructions;
  • disposal instructions;
  • warnings about the consequences of improper handling of the product;
  • name and location of the manufacturer, authorized importer or seller who takes responsibility for handling complaints and after-sales services.

The content of food labels in Ukraine is regulated by Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine “On information for consumers about food” No. 2639-VIII. Food label content:

  • product name;
  • composition (list of main ingredients, preservatives, aroma of congestion, additives and other substances);
  • volume and weight of the product in certain units of measurement;
  • data on ingredients that can cause an allergic reaction (see Appendix No. 1 of the Law);
  • the amount of certain ingredients specified in the relevant article of the law;
  • Terms of Use;
  • expiration date (or shelf life and date of manufacture);
  • storage conditions;
  • name, address and telephone number of the official importer;
  • country or place of origin;
  • name, address and telephone number of the company that is authorized to receive complaints and claims;
  • alcohol content in beverages, if the percentage of ethyl alcohol is more than 1.2%;
  • data on the nutritional value of the product;
  • nutritional declaration (including energy value, amount of carbohydrates, sugar, salt, fat, saturated fat, protein);
  • labeling about the content or absence of genetically modified organisms (GMO).

The latest regulations contain a list of products in Ukraine for which it is mandatory to indicate the country of origin:

  • fresh, chilled or frozen meat;
  • edible by-products of pork, lamb, cattle, goats and poultry;
  • untreated olive oil;
  • honey.
